A ‘wow I live in Washington!” Moment….last December, I was driving past the Washington Monument at dusk. The colors in the sky were unlike any I had seen before, and as we passed I leaned out the car window with my iPhone to try to capture this amazing sight. My hands were shaking, I was so afraid I would miss the shot (and/or drop my iPhone!) but what came out was this picture.
I have lived in Washington for 26 years and often don’t even stop to notice the beautiful architecture and symbols built in stone all around the city. But at that time, I had been thinking a lot about our country and our government, with deep concerns about each. Seeing the Washington Monument standing there against that dramatic sky, so majestic and imposing, took my breath away. It gave me comfort, as it seemed to be ‘standing guard’ over our values and aspirations, and so I named this photo “Sentinel”.
